How to Install Server 2019

This tutorial will show you how to install Windows server 2019. In this tutorial we use Virtual box but if you are installing it on to a physical machine the process will be much the same.

Step 1

Download Windows Server 2019 from here:

https://software-download.microsoft.com/download/pr/17763.1.180914-1434.rs5_release_SERVER_EVAL_x64FRE_en-us.iso

Step 2

If using virtual box:

  • Click New
  • Enter a name for your machine.
  • For Type select Microsoft Windows
  • For Version select other.
  • For Memory give 2GB minimum.
  • The click create.

Step 3

In the following screen click next.

Step 4

Right click your machine and click settings.

Step 5

  • Click storage
  • Click the cd symbol on the right hand side of the screen.

  • Navigate to where you downloaded you server 2019 iso and click ok.

Step 6

  • Click you machine name
  • Then click start.

Step 7

When your machine boots select your language and click next.

Step 8

Click install now.

Step 9

In the next screen select – Windows Server 2019 Standard Evaluation (Desktop Experience) or a different version if you wish to use this one. Then click next.

Step 10

Read and accept the licence and then click next.

Step 11

Click custom: install windows only

Step 12 

Click unallocated space and then click next.

Step 13

Server 2019 will now begin to install

Step 14

When the install is complete you will be asked to enter a password for the administrator account – do so and then click finish.

Step 15

You will then be greeted by the login screen and you have successfully installed server 2019.

How to set up server 2019 on amazon web services

Amazon Web Services (AWS) have recently released Windows server 2019 on to AWS. This tutorial will show you how to set up windows server 2019 on AWS.

Step 1

First log into you aws account and then click Services and then EC2

Step 2

Next Click Launch Instance.

Ste

Search for 2019 and then select the Windows Server 2019 Base.

Step 4

Select an instance size that suits your needs and then click next – Note you will be charged for larger instances.

Step 5

Click Next.

Step 6

Click Next again.

Step 7

Click Add Tag

For Key type Name (make sure to use the a capital N) and for value enter the name you want for your instance. The Click next

Step 9

The click Review and Launch

Step 10 

Click Launch

Step 11

Choose to: Create a new key pair, give you key pair a name and then download the key pair. Then click Launch instances.

Step 12

Click your instance ID

Step 13

Wait till you see an instance State of running

Step 14

Then Right click you EC2 instance and select Get Windows Password

Step 15

Browse to where you downloaded your key and then click decrypt password.

The Copy your password to the clipboard

Note your public IP in our case:

Open up RDP and login to your instance using the public IP, the password you copied and the username administrator.

You will now be brought to you server 2019 EC2 instance on AWS.

How to change the hostname on windows server 2016

Windows Server 2016 is a server operating system developed by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems, developed concurrently with Windows 10.

This tutorial will show you how to change the hostname on windows server 2016.

Step One.

Click the start menu and then click Server Manager.

Step Two.

Click local server and then your computer name.

Step Three

Click Change

Step Four

Enter a computer name and then click OK

Step Five

Click OK


Step Six

Restart your computer and when the server restarts you will see that your hostname will be changed.

How to enable RDP on Windows server 2016

By default Windows Server 2016 disables Remote Desktop Connections (RDP) to the server. If you wish to RDP to the server you will need to enable it first. This tutorial will show you how to enable RDP on windows server 2016.

Step 1 

Click the start button and then Server Manager.

Step 2

Then click on Local server and where it says Remote Desktop click on the Disabled.

Step 3

Click to Allow remote connections to the computer and then click Apply and OK.

How to Install Server 2016 in Virtualbox

Windows Server 2016 is a server operating system developed by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems, developed concurrently with Windows 10.

This tutorial will should you how to install windows server 2016 in virtual box.

Step 1

First you will need to download the windows server 2016 trail, which is available from Microsoft:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/cloud-platform/windows-server-trial

Step 2

Open VirtualBox and click New

Step 3

Fill out the following values:

  • Name: Windows server 2016
  • Type: Microsoft Windows
  • Version Windows 2016 (64-bit)
  • Memory size, leave at 2018 (minimum)
  • Create a virtual hard drive and click create.

Step 4

Leave the defaults and click create.

Step 5

Now right click on the virtual machine and click settings.

Step 6

Click storage, then empty and then click the cd symbol

Step 7

Navigate to where you downloaded your windows server disk and click open

Step 8

Click ok

Step 9

Click your VM and click start

Step 10

Select your language, Time and input and click next.

Step 11

Click Install Now

Step 12

Select I will activate later.

Step 13

Select Windows Server 2016 Standard (Desktop Experience) and click next.

Step 14

Accept the license agreement and click next.

Step 15

Click Custom Install Windows only

Step 16

Click Next, windows will now install.

Step 17

Once windows reboots, enter an administrator password and click Finish.

You have no install windows server 2016 in virtualbox.

How to Trust a Certificate on Windows

If you have generated a self signed certificate on windows you may want to trust that certificate to avoid getting certificate warnings when you navigate to your URL in internet explorer or chrome. It is important to note that you should only trust a certificate if you are 100% sure of it’s origin.

Step 1

Open internet explorer as an adminsitror.

Step 2

Navigate to the URL where your self signed cert is, in our case https://localhost.

Step 3

When prompted remove click to continue to the website

Step 4

Click where it says “Certificate Error” and then view certificate.

Step 5

Click install certificate

Step 6

In the screen that appears select local machine and next

Step 7

Select “place all certificates in the following store” and click browse.

Step 8

Select Trusted Root Certificate Authorities and click ok

Step 9

Then click ok, next and finish.

Step 10

Restart internet explorer.

Step 11

Navigate to your website again, the certificate will now be trusted.

Install God Mode On Windows

“The Windows Master Control Panel shortcut, labeled All Tasks and also called Windows God Mode by bloggers and All Tasks folder by at least one Microsoft developer,[1] is a short-cut to access various control settings in Windows Vista and later operating systems, including Windows 10”

You first need to create a new folder:

 

You then need to name it exactly with this line:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

 

 

Hit enter, the icon now changes to god mode.

If you double click into it you see a full list of admin settings:

if you are on windows 10 and god mode is not working please ensure that you have GodMode. in front of the first { and that you are running as an admin account Once this is done, you will then be able to access god mode in windows.

How to edit the hosts file on Windows Server 2016

Hi there,

The computer file hosts is an operating system file that maps hostnames to IP addresses. You can edit the hosts file in Windows Server 2016 to manually point a host name to an IP address.

Step 1 

Navigate to:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\

Step 2 

Edit the hosts file in a text editor of your choice. Add the ip address of the machine you want to reach press tab and then enter the name you’d like it to be reachable over.

Save and exit the file.

You will now be able to navigateto that machine via the name you set in the hosts file.

How to install JDK on Windows

This tutorial will show you how to install JDK on windows. The version of windows we are using is windows sever 2016 although the process should be much the same for all versions of windows.

Step 1

Navigate to the oracle site by clicking on the below URL.

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

Step 2

Click to accept the licence and select the 64 bit windows installer to download.

Step 3

When the install downloads double click it. On the screen the appears click next

Step 4

Click next again

Step 5

Confirm the install folder and click next.

JDK will then install, when it’s completed you will see a screen similar to the one below.

How to Install VirtualBox guest additions on Windows

This short tutorial will shows you how to install VirtualBox guest additions on Windows. Guest additions consist of device drivers and system applications that optimize the guest operating system for better performance and usability.

In this tutorial we are using windows server 2016, however this guide should work on most versions of Windows.

First click on Devices and then click insert Guest Additions CD Image

Next navigate to Computer / this PC

Now double click on VirtualBox Guest Additions

We then clicked on the VBoxWindowsAdditions-amd64 (if you are running a 32bit system you can select the 32 bit version)

Then simply step through the wizard to complete the installation.

When prompted reboot the system when it is fully rebooted you will have guest additions installed.
